The original homestead was built before the American Revolution (1760's) and is still on the original property situated behind the Portobello Inn.
The original land owner of the old homestead was Jacob Smal, a Captain in the Tryon Militia in the American Revolution, who is mention in the historical novel, "Drums Along the Mohawk."
